Best Life Advice I Have Received

These are some of the most useful life advice I have received or come across, thought I should make a list so that I don't forget and can come back to it and review it regularly as well as share it with others who may also find it helpful. Enjoy.

1. Be Decisive

You may make the wrong decision, but only time will tell. Don't worry about whether you will make the right decision or the wrong decision, just make the decision. You never have all the information you need, and delaying a decision can cost you finding out whether it's right or not.

That's not to say just make a decision blindly, but use the information you have at the time and choose something. Also listen to your gut.

2. Redefine Happiness

If you always chase happiness, you will never find it. Optimise your life for doing things you love and being around people you enjoy. Chasing happiness is a mirage.

Having said that, here are ways you can boost your mood and live more positively. Also, if you are stuck in a rut, here's how to get out of it.

3. Enough is Enough

Don't always wish for more. Take time to appreciate what you have and know when enough is enough. At some point, more money, more travel and more things won't make you happier. Be grateful for what you have.

4. Show Up

By showing up and doing the things you said you were going to do, you build confidence because you become a man of your word. Going against your own word is lying to yourself. It's a great way to reduce your confidence and reduce your self-esteem. Make small progress each day and keep going. Look at the next step, don't just always look at the end goal.

5. Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Don't just say you're going to go to the gym – go to the gym. Also, become a man of your word – do what you say you're going to do when you say you're going to do it.

6. Journal Often

Write about your life. You'll read back and realise how much you have grown. Journaling isn't always about finding the solution straight away, it's about becoming self-aware of your problems. Your consciousness is amazing - it can help you come up with ideas and solutions in your sleep. But putting pen to paper is the most immediately available relieving thing you can do to clear your mind.

7. Say No to Things That Don’t Excite You

Life is too short to do the things you don't want to do.

8. Embrace Bad Experiences

It's all part of the story. If you're struggling now, know that time will heal. If it is unbearable now, think about how you will be laughing about it in the future.

9. Progress = Motivation

You can't always rely on motivation to get things done. Do the thing, make progress. That will become the motivation.

10. Be Around People Who Want the Best for You

Remove toxic and negative people from your life. Especially when you're going through it. You don't want that energy around. This is also easier said than done.

11. Become a Bit Delulu

Sometimes overthinking can get in the way of getting things done or starting something. If you want something, go for it, try it out. No one is going to come and do it for you. Thinking about the multiple ways it's not going to work out will lead you to inaction, and then of course it won't!

Sometimes we need to be a bit delusional to do the things we otherwise think we won't succeed at.

12. Self-Care Is Important

Develop good habits. Take care of your mind and body. Go on walks. Meditate. Journal. Express creativity.

13. Feel Pain

Sometimes life is hard. Feel the negative emotions. They are telling you something. Don't cover them up with substances. Time will heal.

14. Don't Take Shortcuts

Nothing worth having comes easy. So take the time. What's the rush for? Choose sustainable effort over quick fixes.
